Neck Lift in Fort Lauderdale, FL

Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. F. Leigh Phillips, III, PA, FACS is Coral Springs, Fort Lauderdale and South Florida’s Source for Plastic Surgery and the Ultimate in Non-Surgical Aesthetic Enhancements, including the neck lift.

What is a Neck Lift?

Your neck can be one of the first places to show your real age and, although other cosmetic surgical procedures may receive more attention, neck lift surgery or other neck contouring and rejuvenation procedures may be options. Commonly referred to as “turkey neck” or “turkey wattle,” when the skin under your neck slackens, it is not just advancing age that can affect the look of your neck. Hereditary fat deposits (such as the dreaded double or even triple chin), as well as plain old gravity, can also take their toll.

The Neck Lift Consultation

During your initial consultation, Dr. Phillips will take a thorough medical history to see if you are healthy enough to undergo neck surgery. It is best to mention any past surgeries and/or drug allergies or problems with anesthesia. You must have realistic expectations about your neck lift and what it can do for your appearance and your life. You also must be able to clearly communicate your aesthetic goals to Dr. Phillips.

Before Neck Lift Surgery

As with many other cosmetic procedures, smoking is not advisable since it impairs circulation and wound healing. It is important that patients stop smoking two weeks before and after surgery. You may also be given prescriptions for antibiotics and pain relievers before your surgery. Routine blood work and a physical exam will be required before your neck surgery. These measures are in your best interest and will help to ensure that you are healthy enough to undergo surgery.

The Neck Lift Procedure

A neck lift, or platysmaplasty, can be performed in many different ways depending upon the results that the patient desires. Some people choose to combine a neck lift with a traditional facelift, while others choose to have the neck lift procedure performed on its own. During a neck lift, Dr. Phillips makes an incision either behind the ears or under the chin so that the skin can be tightened.

After Neck Lift Surgery

Coral Springs and Fort Lauderdale patients will have one or more postoperative appointments with Dr. Phillips in the days after surgery and the sutures will not likely be removed for seven to 10 days. The scars after a neck lift surgery tend to be short and concealed under your chin, although, on certain occasions, they may be somewhat longer in nature. This is usually related to the technique used in the neck lift, and in most cases they can be minimal.
